 CIPD PRESS RELEASE 3 September 2008

CIPD conference highlights how organisations can win the
intense competition for talent during the economic slowdown

Talent Management Conference, 8 October 2008, Sofitel London
St James

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD)
is holding a Talent Management Conference for HR professionals
looking to attract, retain and develop the best people during
these difficult economic times.

With the Chancellor recently predicting that this could be the
worst recession in over sixty years, a variety of case studies
will present how they are planning to ride the storm and
deliver a competitive advantage in the labour market.

Case studies include:
* Bill Hester, Head of Consulting at DDI;
* Claire Wilson, Head of Talent Development and Resourcing at
the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP);
* Terence Perrin, EMEA Head of Recruitment at JPMorgan Asset
Management;
* Marc Auckland, Head of Leadership Development at Network
Rail; and
* Claire Thompson, Head of Talent Management, RWE npower.

Claire McCartney, CIPD Organisation and Resourcing Adviser, says:
"The current uncertain economic climate makes the effective and
strategic management of talent more not less important. It is
likely that whatever the economic backdrop, organisations will
continue to prioritise recruiting scarce talent and developing
and managing talent throughout the business to ensure their
competitive advantage."

Themes of the conference are:
* Emerging trends in uncertain times
* Aligning talent management with business strategy
* The talent lifecycle
* Embedding talent management across the organisation
* Managing talent across different generations
