CIPD PRESS RELEASE 5 September 2008
CIPD Conference explores the ins and outs of workplace absence
CIPD Absence Management Conference 16 October 2008, Birmingham & 22 October 2008, London
According the 2008 CIPD Annual Absence survey carried out by the CIPD, workplace absence is costing the average employer £666 per employee every year. As well as the expected colds and upset stomachs; stress, anxiety and family commitments were identified by the survey as major causes of employee absence. What can organisations do to change this?
An upcoming conference from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development Spotlight on Absence Management will offer solutions to the problem of absence and measures that organisations can take to reduce absence in their organisations.
Ben Willmott, Employee Relations Advisor, CIPD says: "In the current economic climate, employers simply cannot afford to lose any more days to absence than necessary. In addition high levels of absence are often an indicator of low levels of employee engagement and morale, which is central to organisational productivity and performance. Implementing an effective absence management strategy is crucial if absence is to be managed effectively and consistently and in order to support employees' health and wellbeing".
The conference will feature case studies demonstrating best practice from Royal & Sun Alliance, Transport for London and GlaxoSmithKline.
In order to accommodate delegates the conference will take place on two separate dates in different locations - 16 October 2008 in Birmingham and 22 October 2008 in London.
