Rationale of the Course

It is now widely accepted that success and excellence in life and work does not only depend on our levels of IQ but on other intelligences that are equally if not more important. In fact today, psychologists refer to multiple intelligences rather than intelligence as a single construct. Among these intelligences, Emotional Intelligence has been identified as one of the most important intelligences that help us navigate the complex network of relationships that we engage in every day. The ability to create positive rapport with the people we come in contact plays a large part of our success or otherwise in achieving the outcomes we want. Emotional intelligence is defined as a form of social intelligence that involves the ability to monitor one’s own feelings and emotions, to discriminate among them, and to use this information to guide one’s thinking and action. Emotional intelligence is not only useful for work settings. It is for the person who wants to grow and develop into a better human being. Parents, teachers, children, and people working in any kind of job, can benefit from the competencies that make up an emotionally intelligent person. It is an intelligence that can be acquired by all, felt by all, and ultimately makes people live better with themselves and with others.
