Rationale of the Course

Recruitment and selection has to move forward and match todays fast pace culture, it’s a result driven business world and therefore employees and potential employees need to hit the ground running.

Having the right set of competencies that are clearly measured against ensure that performance is harnessed from the beginning and can be continuously measured and evaluated.

Competency-based recruitment means changing and adapting the way we currently think about recruitment and selection and adopting a different set of hiring tools.

This structured approach helps to ensure that only relevant information is sought during the interview and enables the interview to be more effectively integrated into a total selection process.  Other selection tools, such as references, aptitude testing or further interviews can all are included in order to provide additional information.

Research has shown that many interviewers do not seek behavioral information about applicants but rely upon what the candidates say they would do.  The goal of using the competency approach is to ensure the desired behaviour is obtained through obtaining examples of past heavier, not theoretical or ‘text book’ responses.

The impact of an interview’s biases and stereotypes is lessened through the emphasis on collecting and evaluating examples of past behaviours.

This course will ultimately focus on how to understand, put together the required competency requirements.  This will then in turn attract candidates who meet those requirements and then make a selection based on those who match those competencies or have the potential to do so.
