Course Content

This course explains how health and safety is a business issue to be managed like any other if maximum gains are to be obtained. Thus it is designed to provide an understanding of the need for a systematic approach to managing health and safety, by examining the elements of such a system and how they can be introduced into an organisation to maximum effect.

·           H&S as a profit-centre.

·           Introduction to HS(G)65 and ISO 18000 series

·           Elements of a management system

·           Developing aims and objectives in policy.

·           Roles and organisation

·           Planning and implementing

·           Monitoring progress.

·           Review and audit

Course Objective

Upon completion of the course, participants should be able to:

·           Recognise the effects of poor h&s management.

·           Understand the benefits of systematic management.

·           Identify the key elements of an effective h&s management system.

·           Contribute to the introduction of appropriate changes within their own organisations.

·           Understand how h&s auditing can inform the system.
