Memorable CIPD conference

Three Maltese delegates attended the CIPD annual conference in Harrogate, UK, in October. Two of them shared their thoughts about what they feel they have gained from attending such a  prestigious conference.

Nicholas Saliba - Corinthia Hotels International, Tripoli, Libya:

The CIPD conference in Harrogate is an inspirational experience from beginning to end. The ideas and wealth of information that this conference generates in three solid days is outstanding.

I recommend this experience to anybody who has Human Resource Development at heart and to anybody who is in contact with people in one way or the other.

This conference is not only a source of how you keep yourself updated with the business development across the continents but gives a meaning to the human resources factor, which is the main and only success of any profit or non-profit making organisation.

Anthony Portelli - Malta Tourism Authority:

The whole event was a stimulant that refreshes and opens up the mind to absorb the latest trends and thinking on the HR profession. Networking with other HR practitioners with different backgrounds and diverse nationalities has added value to this experience.

Of particular interest to me was the presentation by Kevin Green, entitled "Change Your Culture - and improve your results" on how Royal Mail managed to change the organisation to turn a £1.6 million a day loss in 2002 to an announced profit of over £600 million in 2006.

Another impressive speaker was Nigel Risner, speaker, coach and author, who spoke on "Discover Your Potential as a Leader". These were only two seminars from many other equally interesting seminars, all valid for today's business needs and the development of every HR practitioner.

Visiting the exhibition with 300-odd stands under one roof promoting various HR products and services gave us Maltese participants the opportunity to contact exhibitors that could be useful to our organisations.

No doubt, an experience not to be missed by any HR practitioner.
