O come all ye... HR practitioners
February 25 has nothing in common with Christmas, apart from the day of the month, and the festive spirit would surely have rubbed off by then. However, it could be the first step to fulfilling one of the new year resolutions - that of further developing one's knowledge and career prospects.
February 25 is a date HR practitioners should jot down in their diaries. Dr John Goodwin, newly appointed head of the Centre for Labour Market Studies, University of Leicester, will be in Malta to launch the new Master of Science Programmes by distance learning. Dr Goodwin is also senior lecturer and sub-dean for Graduate Studies (Social Sciences).
As from the next intake of courses, starting on May 8, CLMS will be offering four M.Sc. programmes: M.Sc. in Human Resource Development; M.Sc. in Human Resource Management and Development; M.Sc. in Human Resource Development and Performance Management; and M.Sc. in International HR and Globalisation.
These Masters are the result of the updating and revamping of the three previous M.Sc. courses. The updating consisted in changing the degree titles, updating the modules and introducing a research methods module. Apart from this, the structure of the new courses remains unchanged - distance learning, four modules and a dissertation. The programme is assignment-based and lasts approximately two years.
The Master's programme is designed to equip students with knowledge and skills relevant to the management and development of human resources through focusing on the role of human resource development, human resource management and performance management at individual, organisational, national and/or international levels of analysis.
The courses also aim to equip students with the research skills to undertake research at Masters level.
On February 25 the FHRD is organising an open day during which Dr Goodwin will be presenting all the courses that CLMS provides, and together with other academic members from CLMS will be available to meet prospective students on all the CLMS programmes - Certificate, Diploma, Masters and Doctorate.
All those who are interested in knowing more about our academic courses in human resources should attend this open day from 9.30 a.m. at the FHRD in San Gwann. To attend, contact Daniela Gouder on 2138-1786 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. or e-mail dgouder@fhrd.org.
