The route to become an HR professional
Foundation for Human Resources Development
In today's world of cut-throat competition, where organisations try to outrun each other for the best conditions of employment and where for each job vacancy or promotion, there could be numerous potential candidates, becoming a professional in one's field of work is key.
This is attainable by achieving specialised academic qualifications and also through work experience. This combination is therefore also paramount in the delicate field of human resources. A considerable number of students have moved in this direction and are now in possession of an international recognised qualification in HR.
The FHRD, agent for the Centre for Labour Market Studies, Leicester University, celebrated the academic achievement of 35 Maltese students at a presentation ceremony, held last Friday at The Malta Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise, Valletta.
Dr John Goodwin, head of CLMS, together with Noel Scerri, FHRD president, and Maria Pia Chircop, FHRD CEO, participated in the formal ceremony and congratulated all graduates individually.
Other distinguished guests at the event were Dr Johnny Sung, Sally Gatward and Eimer Oglesby, also from CLMS, Sue Vella, CEO of the Employment and Training Corporation, and Jonathan Sciberras, assistant director at the Staff Development Organisation.
The FHRD offers its congratulations and best wishes for the future to the following students:
Certificate in Training Practice Mario Casha and Clifford Schembri.
Diploma in Human Resource Management Christine Apap, Maria Elena Cacciatore, Sarah Elgar, Olivia Farrugia, Sharon Spiteri, Marvic Vassallo and Marisa Vella.
Diploma in Training and Development Raymond Borg, Deborah Camilleri, Claudette Debono, Gilbert Mangion, Joseph Spiteri and Cristabelle Tabone.

CLMS open day
For those who wish to achieve similar qualifications or wish to further their studies in human resources, an open day was held yesterday at the FHRD premises in San Gwann. Dr Goodwin and his team facilitated the event and provided extensive information on the revamped academic courses in human resource management and development that CLMS offer by distance learning through FHRD.
People present had the opportunity to ask questions directly to the academics of the centre, to view the course materials and also to meet students and therefore get first hand experience of what doing a CLMS course by distance learning involves.
If you are interested in knowing more about the learning opportunity in human resources that CLMS provide, contact Daniela Gouder on 2138-1786 or dgouder@fhrd.org. The next intake of courses is scheduled for April 24 for the Doctorate and May 8 for the Diploma and Masters programmes. The Certi-ficate programme begins in October.
