Nissos project concluding conference
Foundation for Human Resources Development
The Nissos three-year project, which was part financed through the Leonardo da Vinci programme of the European Union, came to a successful end with a two day international conference, entitled 'Successful Small Business and Entrepreneurship from Small Islands'.
The conference was organised by Sandra Agius of the FHRD, in co-ordination with the two other local partners, Malta Enterprise and the University of Malta. It was launched by Paul Baldacchino of Malta Enterprise and Godwin C. Micallef of the Foundation for Human Resources Development. Mr Micallef also chaired one of the five sessions.
The objective of this project was to identify the organisational processes and human resources development strategies of export-oriented small firms from small island territories in Europe. Besides Malta, the other project partners were Saarema Island (Estonia), Aland Islands (Finland), Iceland and the Scottish Islands of Skye and Shetland. The findings have been translated into vocational training and lifelong learning programmes in the same territories.
This concluding conference was held at Malta Enterprise and MCAST. Speakers from various countries, including New South Wales, Australia, Prince Edward Island, Canada, and the Faroe Islands gave some very interesting presentations.
A group of students from MCAST also gave a presentation showing how they have implemented the training manual as part of their course work.
Education Minister Louis Galea and Parliamentary Secretary Edwin Vassallo concluded the conference with a press event and official launch of the Malta Training Manual.
