Strengthening links between employers and social partners

Maria Pia Chircop, CEO, FHRD

The Foundation for Human Resources Development has offered a variety of opportunities for both the public sector and all small, medium and large organisations over the years within its mission to enhance people management and development practices.

This year, the FHRD is embarking on a mega initiative inviting all those who lead, manage and train people including directors, HR and training practitioners, owner managers and other professionals, regardless of the nature of the business and the size of organisations, to form part of sectoral fora.

The major scope of these fora is for all social partners and experts to come together to enhance organisational practices and meet industry's needs.

The items on the agenda are various. Delegates can share their people management and development practices so that they can understand each others' organisation set-up, culture, and HR processes and procedures. By so doing, networking and visits between professionals are encouraged to enhance such practices further.

Sharing of HR concerns and issues will also be discussed. These could include recruitment and shortage of skills, employees' motivation to work, sectoral training needs, employee welfare and collective bargaining.

For each item, the FHRD will invite other social partners, like employment and educational entities, unions' representatives, professional individuals and experts, who could offer recommendations and possibly assist organisations to meet their needs.

The FHRD strongly believes that putting professionals together is a powerful tool to exchange ideas, knowledge and practices, to mention a few, besides promoting one's own organisation and self.

The success of such sectoral fora will depend exclusively on the delegates' commitment to attend one meeting per month and on their willingness to participate. A first meeting will be held at the foundation's premises on February 21 at 5.30 p.m. to discuss the way forward. An electronic invitation will be sent shortly to more than 1,500 contacts.

Those who are interested in these discussion fora may contact the FHRD on 2137-8895.
